For the past 2 years, Planit have been working in conjuntion with Premier Moves to manage the Francis Crick Institute of Medical Research move from 8 sites into the new Crick Laboratories situated in Kings Cross St Pancras.
Formerly known as the UK Centre for Medical Research and Innovation, the Crick Institute is a biomedical research centre in London. The institute is a partnership between Cancer Research UK, Imperial College London, King's College London, the Medical Research Council, University College London and the Wellcome Trust, also including labs from GlaxoSmithKline, Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge, making it the biggest single biomedical laboratory in Europe.
The institute's 1 million square foot new facilities is spread over 12 floors and cost £650 million, it was completed by construction company Laing O'Rourke in August 2016. The move of the institute includes 1,500 staff, including in excess of 1,250 scientists and more than 16,000 pieces of scientific equipment. Researchers from the Crick's legacy institutes are gradually moving into the new Crick Lab in a 26 phase process that took more than 9 months to physically move, upon completion.
" A fantastic state-of-the-art new home for the Crick has been built ... it will be the discoveries we make here that cement our place in London, in the UK and at the forefront of science worldwide."
Sir Paul Nurse- Nobel Prize winner and Director and Chief Executive of the Francis Crick Institute
Planit did a fantastic job with our very complex move, which involved the re-location of over 20 high-end microscopes from three different sites into our new building. The building was under construction during our phase of the move and delays in building construction forced us to reschedule major equipment moves at least 3 times over the course of 2 months. Each time the team patiently revised the schedule, discussing things first with me and then working with 5 different OEMs to re-schedule engineers and transportation. Despite the delays, in the end the move went smoothly and all of our equipment was back up and running with minimal down time.
Kurt Anderson- Head of Crick Advanced Light Microscopy Facility
Planit dealt with the ups and downs of a hugely complex migration process with professionalism, charm and equanimity, keeping to a very tight schedule and yet maintaining personal involvement in each small part of a very much larger process.
Dr Michael Howell- Head of the High Throughput Screening Laboratory, Crick
