Planit were selected to project manage the relocation of Mid Essex Hospitals NHS Trust.
The Project objective was to achieve the centralisation of services, with St John’s Hospital and C&E centre moving onto the Broomfield Hospital site.
The project not only focused on the move but all building set up facilities and supportive services.
This lead to additional management of the:
• Disconnection, clean and reconnection of all desktop IT Equipment,
• Receipt, distribution unpacking and placing of new furniture and equipment,
• Provision of a small team working shifts for 4 weeks to support cleaners, as floors in the new facility were sealed
• The consolidation of all surplus furniture at St Johns and Broomfield for either re-use or auction.
Planit developed the occupation strategy in conjunction with the project team and also the area representatives for A&E, Outpatient clinics, Wards and Theatres. Communication Process - Our Project Management Team ensured that an effective communication process was implemented, to ensure that the Project Team, staff and patients were fully informed of activities, dates and logistics to ensure that the daily operation of the hospital was not impacted. All crates were managed to the extent that out of the 4,000 delivered, none were misplaced or lost.
On this project we demonstrated our highest levels of flexibility. On 2 separate stages, the moves were delayed with minimal notice, due to problems with the main lifts and we had to stand down resources and then reschedule all works in line with when the lifts were operating correctly.
With the A&E move we had to work within a live environment during the transfer process as the A&E dept could not close. This itself raised serious challenges, which were all overcome.
